IF Renpy is what you prefer - go ahead and use it - as someone who HAS used it extensively, I much prefer Tyrano as it does what I want it to - gets my ideas from my head into game form with little to no stress and Ive been able to use it within a work environment and will be demonstrating my game at Amecon in Nottingham this year. The fact of the matter is - some people eat apples some people eat oranges and some people drink juice.Įveryone is different and I am happy there is a variety in the market that caters to all.

It is all well and good offering things for free but free is not a factor or determination of quality. Id be much more happier knowing that the guys behind this engine get paid for their efforts so that when I am making profits from this (as I have already done so when I used the engine to create training material for my place of work) they have gotten something out of it. I am a programmer myself and whether someone decides to charge something or not is their decision.
I can totally understand that, especially if commercial ware is the only thing that offers what they want. If people really find that the commercial ware offers something for them the freeware doesn't, that's different though.

I see this a lot on steam, I think people take advantage of the fact that a lot of people use steam but don't hang out in dev communities to know what's really out there so they see something like this and assume it's "the tool" to use, and because this is the vast majority of steam users it's easy for software devs to get by with this. Something that costs as much as a new game is doing something else barely a bit better than something that is free to use. It also costs money, ren'py and novelty (and quest, although that's not innately designed for VNs) are free. Modern engines recognise this is the way to go - it might just be a fancy browser wrapper but being able to focus on your game and less on the mechanics is how games are completed from design to deployment.Īs an oldie from the OnRPG community where I saw many projects in depth but never complete - This is hands down THE tool to use for Visual Novels - the creator of this engine "Gets it" and it is not only intuitive to use but fun. Αναρτήθηκε αρχικά από ╚╝Doge Shadow╚╝:The biggest difference is in the deployment. Incidentally, there's a website called codecademy that has lessons on both javascript (as well as java) and python, and several other "starter" languages if anyone is interested. Anything beyond simple phrases will have its meaning lost in translation.īut sometimes most of what people need are simple commands anyway even for ambitious projects, and at that point it just goes back to convenience or accessibility for the user. Neither of these can usually stand in for actual coding for more complex things since they both serve as a buffer between the considerable gap between human english and computerspeak it's like using a translator to talk to someone in Japanese when your first language is Spanish. The difference in the two things is usually user-specific and whichever is more advantageous to someone usually depends on if they are faster with a D&D interface or a text editor one. Script interfaces are designed to circumvent coding for simple tasks by allowing people to write out most commands in some semblance of human English similar to how drag and drop works in other programs. In that case difference is a language: JS vs Python.

Of cause, anything advanced needs a lot of code in both RenPy and TyranoBuilder. In TyranoBuilder you do that through mouse clicks. Αναρτήθηκε αρχικά από DeXP:How to show a character in RenPy? Something like "show sylvie normal with dissolve" or at minimal "show sylvie".
